On our Father's shoulders

How to react at the lemons life throws?

Something that I try to keep in mind is actually a verse from this week's Torah portion, where Moses describes how G-d looked after the Jews in the desert, at a time of seemingly endless journey and many uncertainties.

"...G-d has carried you as a man carries his son...".

What does it mean that G-d 'carried' the Jewish people in the desert?

Sometimes, I hold Mendel on my shoulders. There in that safe spot on my shoulders, exactly there, he has no way of seeing my face. In fact he may feel all alone and not in control of where he is. He may even call out, "Tatty (yiddish for Daddy) ? Where are you? Help me!"

"Dear Mendel", I say. "there is no need to feel afraid. I'm right here with you! You couldn't be safer- I'm holding you."

The same is with us and G-d. Even when we don't see Him, it isn't that He's social distancing. Especially in the darkest times where He seems most distant, He's even closer to us and more than that- He's holding us, carrying us through thick and thin.

I don't profess to see G-d, nor that I understand His ways, but I know He's always there, looking out for us. This is my biggest comfort.
